1,890 Chevening Scholars came together to celebrate a successful year as part of the programme on Wednesday, 5 July at London’s historic Alexandra Palace. It was a chance for scholars to say goodbye to one another, look back on a year of study and cultural activities in the UK, and also to open up new opportunities as the scholars become part of the global Chevening Alumni network. Our 2015/2016 Chevening Scholars have returned home after spending a year in the UK during which they studied hard, built their networks, and became acquainted with British culture. British Embassies and High Commissions all over the world celebrated their return by throwing welcome home events. It is here that our newest cohort of Chevening Alumni receive their Chevening completion certificates, become inducted into the alumni community at home, and showcase all they learnt in the UK. In September 2016, the Chevening Officer Excellence Awards were launched in order to recognise best practice within the Chevening network. The focus for the pilot awards was alumni engagement and, after a highly competitive process, we were delighted to select three winning posts: Brazil, Nigeria, and Mexico. Read more

Scholar group picture from Mount Snowdon

On Friday, 12 August and Saturday, 13 August, Bangor University hosted a group of 44 Chevening Scholars for Chevening's second overnight event in Wales. Scholars enjoyed a weekend of culture and outdoor activities in an area of stunning natural beauty in the UK. The group learned about the history and culture of Wales from experts at Bangor University. They then visited the impressive Caernarfon Castle before trying out a traditional Welsh folk dance, the twmpath, in the evening. Read more

Brazilian alumni in Sao Paolo
21 June 2016
Brazilian alumni in Sao Paolo launched the Chevening Legal and Human Rights Network on 2 May 2016. The network is the vision of alumnus Eduardo Paranhos, Senior Legal Director of HP, who studied Law at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) through a Chevening Scholarship 15 years ago. It aims to bring together Chevening Alumni in the fields of law and human rights to collaborate with each other. The first ever Brazil Goodwill Ambassador summit took place on 1 December in Brasilia. 18 alumni representatives of the almost 1,500 strong alumni network in Brazil congregated at the British Embassy residence for a day of exchange, discussion, and discovery. Read more
