Seventy Chevening Fellows from seven countries and eight different fellowship programmes were brought together for a special networking reception and dinner on the banks of the River Thames. With experts from across professional sectors and countries all convened in the same space, the evening provided a unique opportunity for fellows to form new relationships and solidify already burgeoning ones. Last October, Sifu Albert Law of Wan Kam Leung Practical Wing Chun travelled from Hong Kong to Beijing to instruct Chevening Alumni and applicants on how to use the art of Wing Chun for self-defence.  Read more

In the shadow of Guizhou Province’s highest peak, Chevening Alumni and future applicants from across northeast and southwest China came together for China’s annual Chevening Conference from 22-23 September. Coordinated by China Chevening Alumni in collaboration with the British Consulate General Chongqing, the British Embassy Beijing and the Zoological Society of London, the conference aimed to draw attention to some of the most pressing issues faced by people, cultures, and ecosystems, both domestically and around the world. Forty-five Chevening Fellows from across six different fellowship programmes attended a special networking reception and dinner at Fishmongers’ Hall, London. The third of its kind, the Annual Fellowships Dinner was hosted by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). The evening brought together fellows from Bangladesh, China, India, Maldives, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, South Africa and Sri Lanka. With such a range of fellows with varying professional and personal backgrounds all in one place, the evening was the perfect networking opportunity for our fellows. Read more

Our 2015/2016 Chevening Scholars have returned home after spending a year in the UK during which they studied hard, built their networks, and became acquainted with British culture. British Embassies and High Commissions all over the world celebrated their return by throwing welcome home events. It is here that our newest cohort of Chevening Alumni receive their Chevening completion certificates, become inducted into the alumni community at home, and showcase all they learnt in the UK. As part of its global scholarship scheme, Chevening has joined with the N8 Research Partnership to provide expanded opportunities for Chinese scholars to study in the north of England. The N8 Research Partnership is a consortium of universities, which aims to maximise impact, promote collaboration, establish innovative research capabilities and programmes, and drive economic growth. Zhao Qi, Chevening Alumnus

Known for exploring cultural themes in contemporary China, Zhao Qi is a Sundance and Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker based in Beijing. He also worked as an executive director and commissioning editor in China Central Television for 19 years. Read more
