Tunisian scholar Nayress Ben Gaga showed off her fantastic voice to Chevening at an end-of-term jam session at the Jazz and Improv Society, a student society at Goldsmiths, University of London. We took the train down to New Cross to meet Nayress, and to find out how she began singing jazz at the age of 19. ‘I discovered jazz by accident. My mum received a present from a friend of hers, which was a couple of CDs of “big name” jazz artists. That’s when I realised that there was something there that spoke to me.’ Read more

Iconic London landmarks were on the itinerary for a group of 50 scholars as they enjoyed a fascinating guided tour of the Houses of Parliament, a boat trip down the River Thames, and thought-provoking lectures at the beautiful University of Greenwich. Scholars made the journey from as far as Newcastle for our ‘Best of British Presents: Westminster event’ on Monday, 23 April. Events in the Best of British Presents series take place in the UK’s capital cities and focus on our different political institutions and cultural heritage. Read more

Chevening Partners, Scholars, and Alumni gathered at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office on Wednesday, 21 March to share stories about the ‘life-changing’ Chevening programme, in an evening held to thank partners for their support. Guests were welcomed to the FCO’s Durbar Court by the Rt Hon Mark Field MP, Minister of State, who said: ‘On my visits I meet Chevening Alumni whenever I can. Invariably they tell me that the scholarship has made a huge difference to their lives.’ Read more

Ukrainian Chevening Scholar and weight-lifter Bohdan Bon won a bronze medal for Great Britain at a major international powerlifting championship. Bohdan's medal was achieved in the -83kg category of the International Powerlifting Federation World Classic Bench Press Championships 2018, which took place in Finland from 14 to 19 May. Read more

As part of the 'Chevening Explores’ series, Cheveners past and present came together in Nottingham to discuss the challenges and opportunities around sustainability. The event, Sense and Sustainability, opened with a welcome speech from Professor Sarah Metcalfe of the University of Nottingham, during which she outlined the university's research priorities and institutional focus on sustainable and resilient cities. She also acknlowledged the value of the Chevening programme for the scholars in attendance. Read more
