Chevening Scholarships will be relaunched in Oman, as announced by Jonathan Wilks, the British Ambassador to the sultanate, earlier this month. The programme will be launched in partnership with a number of British businesses active in Oman, Wilks said at a reception held at his residence celebrating the uniquely close friendship between the two countries on the 45th anniversary of the Omani Renaissance. Chevening Scholars had the chance to experience some of the fantastic work of British playwright Sir William Shakespeare. At the Globe Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, scholars were introduced to 'The Merchant of Venice' by Dr Christie Carson, before taking their seats to view the play later that evening. Alecia Maragh, a Chevening Scholar from Jamaica, recently spoke at the Annual TEDx Student competition at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). As one of Chevening's Social Media Ambassadors, Alecia inspires people from across the globe on a daily basis to better themselves and push for their goals - and in particular to become a Chevening Scholar. However, she decided it was time to spread her thoughts in a more demanding setting - on a stage with nowhere to hide. After the event, she told us her story. Read more

As the winner of the Tea at No. 10 competition, Malaysian scholar Aimran Amir toured the famous No. 10 Downing Street, residence to British Prime Ministers since 1735, and enjoyed a cup of tea in one of its beautiful dining rooms. Read more

Mariela Sanchez-Belmont Montiel, a Chevening Scholar from Mexico, has completed this year's Greater Manchester Marathon. In a more than respectable time of 5hrs 27mins, Mariela, who studies at the University of Manchester, completed her first ever marathon. A musical, cultural and glamorous evening to bring the softer side of Pakistan to London was held by Chevening Scholars from Pakistan at the William Goodenough House. Aasia Saail Khan, Sumbal Agha and Umar Mahmood Khan, with the help of Team Young Pakistan at Goodenough, presented their show 'East meets West' to an audience of over 125 guests from London, Europe, Canada, Asia and America. Chevening and the University of Durham came together for the second year in a row to host the annual Chevening Conference. This year, set in the fantastic facilities at Durham University Business School, scholars set about debating diplomacy in the 21st century. Nearly 100 scholars attended the one day conference, and 21 scholars were selected to present their opinions on topics ranging from soft power through to global health and governance.  Read more

On Tuesday 7 April, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) Afghanistan team invited Afghan Chevening scholars to spend the afternoon at the FCO in Westminster. The scholars went on an exclusive tour of the historic building and attended a round table discussion with key members of the Afghanistan Unit and FCO research analysts. The group was also joined by Victoria Schofield, a lecturer in South Asia studies at King’s College London. Read more

A group of Chevening Scholars stepped back in time as they visited Bletchley Park, home to the British codebreakers of World War Two.  Bletchley was famously the location where Alan Turing cracked the Enigma code, helping to defeat Hitler's Germany as Britain and its allies won the war. It is now a visitor centre, and most recently was used in the film depiction of Turing's story - The Imitation Game.
