These fellowships enable mid-career academics or professionals to undertake a period of self-directed research focusing on the culture and civilisation of Islam and contemporary Muslim societies in a global context. Fellows will benefit from meeting a multi-disciplinary group of scholars focusing on the Islamic world.

Agus Salim

Associate Professor, Sulthan Thaha State Islamic University Jambi

Agus Salim is an Associate Professor at State Islamic University of Jambi. His work focuses on the convergence between Islam, social movements and foreign policy in Indonesia. He was a Prime Minister Australia Asia PhD scholar and a consultant for Australia-Indonesia Muslim Exchange & Interfaith Dialogue Programs.

Alisher Ernapasovich Jumagulov

Associated Professor, Tashkent State University of Law

Alisher is an Associated Professor of Tashkent State University of Law. His research focuses on the prospects of Islamic capital market regulation in Central Asia and the problems of its implementation.

Murat Kayalik

Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies visiting fellow

Murat is an Arabist and Islamologist with 8 years of experience in Islamic studies. His areas of expertise include classical Qur’anic exegesis, Islamic mysticism and Sufi hermeneutics, as well as European Islamic studies and European Muslims, with a specific focus on the Netherlands.

Haironesah Marquez Domado

Research Assistant, George Mason University

Haironesah is a doctoral candidate with the Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution at George Mason University. Her research explores the intersection of conflict, peace, and gender in Islamic feminism in the context of women’s empowerment discourses in contemporary Muslim society in the Philippines.

Oumama Emad Hamasha

Assistant Professor in Islamic Studies, the University of Jordan

Oumama is an experienced Chevening visiting Fellow at Oxford Centre of Islamic Studies & an Assistant Professor at University of Jordan. She is skilled in inspiring, motivating & supporting others with a commitment to excellence, and sees herself as a diligent Chevener dedicated to collective success & advancing scholarly pursuits.

PhD Researcher, Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory

Melike is a PhD researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory. Her research focuses on the intersection of Islamic law, colonial rule, and social order in the Ottoman Empire and British colonies during the 19th and 20th centuries.

Ahmed Rabie Hassane

Lecturer, AL-Azhar University

Dr. Ahmed, a dedicated Al-Azhar University lecturer, specialises in comparative Civil and Islamic Law and economics. His influential roles span academia, research, and humanitarian efforts, showcasing a commitment to Islamic values, community development, and interfaith dialogue.

Mohammed Faiz Shaul Hamid

Head of Global Value Chains, Islamic Development Bank

Dr. Faiz is a leading development professional and industry strategist, specialising in advising governments across Asia, Africa and the Middle East in formulating sustainable development projects. He is also appointed by the Prime Minister of Malaysia as the Council Member for Digital Economy and Industry 4.0.
