Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI)
The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation formed in 1982, for the purpose of promoting and developing tourism in the Maldives.
Four decades of MATI’s service has been provided to almost all the travel and tourism related issues which arise in Maldives. A key function of MATI is coordinating with all mandatory government policy making bodies to align new laws and regulations to tourism industry best practices.
Additionally, we represent the industry internationally and locally by attending different seminars, organising and providing research, and offering professional consultation to governmental, private and international organisations.
Chevening and MATI
Two Chevening MATI Scholarships will be provided to applicants from the Maldives over the course of two academic years (2022/2023 and 2023/2024). Scholarships will support students to study travel and tourism-related subjects.
One of the main areas of focus for MATI is education and training. As an organisation, MATI is always exploring opportunities that can assist in the development of the human capital of the Maldives. We were attracted to partner with Chevening due to the structure of the partnership, its illustrious history, the list of notable alumni, and being confident in the immense value the scholarships can deliver for Maldivians.
We believe that partnering with Chevening provides us with the confidence to take part in a scholarship programme with a trusted partner that has produced a considerable number of notable alumni. Furthermore, in our opinion, the joint-funding model of Chevening is an incentive for us to possibly extend our partnership for many years to come.
Ultimately the main benefit is the production of a well-educated and professional workforce that can contribute to the development of our communities and economy.
