Foraging & Nature Tours at Belfast Castle – Belfast, 01 July – 31 October

The tour will begin with a geographical orientation, discussing the impact of micro and macro climates and terra forma on the development of the world around you, and you will then start to study the diversity of nature below, above, and beside you.

During the walk at the foot of the Belfast hills, you will see native woodland, open meadow, hedgerow herbs, fruiting bushes, edible flowers, and wild fungi, as well as practical, poisonous, and medicinal plants galore.

Exhibition: Anatomy: A Matter of Death and Life – Edinburgh, 02 July – 30 October

This exhibition will look at the social and medical history surrounding the practice of dissection. It will trace the relationship between anatomy, its teaching and cultural context and the bodies that were dissected.

Looking at Edinburgh’s role as an international centre for medical study, the exhibition will offer insight into the links between science and crime in the early 19th century.

Village Storytelling Festival 2022 – Glasgow, 05 – 10 July

The Festival offers opportunities to connect in person and online as they explore Re:Connection and Transformation – Storytelling In a Precarious World, through performance, screenings, exhibitions, talks and workshops, and the launch of an international storytelling toolkit.

They will present an extraordinary line-up of internationally acclaimed storytellers premiering new work in Scotland, alongside thought-provoking discussions, creative workshops, and family events.

Belfast UNESCO City of Music: Walking Tour and Performance – Belfast, 08 July – 10 December

Take a leisurely walking tour to explore Belfast’s rich music scene.  The tour begins at the iconic Ulster Hall, known locally as the ‘Grand Dame of Bedford Street’ and a legend in the history of Belfast’s entertainment scene.

You will explore some of the venues that are important in Belfast’s musical history and today, including traditional bars, historic buildings, open air performance spaces, its main arena venues – and even a church. You will discover why Belfast is a UNESCO City of Music.

Museum Talk: Archaeology of the Hoyle Caves near Tenby – 14 July

This webinar will focus on the prehistoric use of the caves and will discuss the stone tools, animal bones, the changing climate and the environment in which people made use of the caves.

This talk will have as reference the Amgueddfa Cymru excavated in Hoyle’s Mouth and Little Hoyle Caves, Penally 1984-1996. This work generated a wealth of archaeological finds dating back as far as 34,000 years ago and the caves were found to have been used intermittently up until the early medieval period.

Durham City Run Festival 2022 – Durham, 15 – 16 July

The World Heritage Site provides the stunning backdrop to this exciting event that chases through the narrow-cobbled streets and along the beautiful River Wear with the imposing 900-year-old Cathedral always beckoning. There can hardly be a more spectacular setting for a Summer Night of racing and fun.

2022 Royal Welsh Show – Llanelwedd, 18 – 21 July

The Royal Welsh Show in Llanelwedd (Mid Wales) is the pinnacle of the British agricultural calendar. There will be a wide range of activities including forestry, horticulture, crafts, countryside sports, shopping, food, and drink and a 12-hour programme each day of exciting entertainment, attractions and displays.

Buckingham Palace Tour: Summer Opening – London, 22 July – 02 October

Buckingham Palace is recognised around the world as the home of The Queen, the focus of national and royal celebrations such as the Platinum Jubilee, as well as the backdrop to the regular Changing the Guard ceremony.

Explore the magnificent State Rooms which are open to visitors for 10 weeks each summer (22^nd July – 2^nd October 2022).

European Association of Social Anthropologists Conference (EASA) Belfast 2022, 26 – 29 July

The 17th EASA Biennial Conference focuses on the entanglements of transformation, hope and the commons. The global Covid19 pandemic, and societal responses to it, have transformed the societies in which we live and work.

The conference is particularly focused on the connections between hope and political projects of (un)communing – thinking about political, social, economic, environmental, and cultural transformations in the context of the pandemic and beyond.

The Conference will take place in Belfast, and it will be a hybrid event (you can participate in person or online).

The Commonwealth Games 2022 – Birmingham, 28 July – 08 August

Birmingham will be the home of the Commonwealth Games 2022, an international multi-sport event that brings athletes, para-athletes, and communities from around the world to the West Midlands for a celebration of sport.

The games are from 28^th July 2022 to 08^th August 2022 and will include swimming and diving, cricket, gymnastics, athletics, cycling, judo, and netball. Events will take place not only in Birmingham but across the West Midlands too, from Coventry and Solihull to Royal Leamington Spa and Wolverhampton.

Edinburgh Art Festival – Edinburgh, 28 July – 28 August

Edinburgh Art Festival is the platform for the visual arts – bringing together the capital’s leading galleries, museums, and artist-run spaces in a city-wide celebration of the very best in visual art.

Each year, the festival features leading international and UK artists alongside the best emerging talent, major survey exhibitions of historic figures, and a special programme of newly commissioned artworks that respond to public and historic sites in the city. Most of the festival is free to attend.
