Chevening Scholars at Robert Gordon University (RGU) benefit from a range of career support services.
If you choose to study in the UK with Chevening, you’ll return home with more than just a world-class education.
UK universities offer a range of career support services to help students stand out to employers and transition into the workplace.
With its strong links to industry and practical approach to teaching, Robert Gordon University (RGU) prides itself on successfully preparing students for life after study.
As a leading Scottish university, RGU offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across fields as diverse as business, science, and the creative arts.
The university’s commitment to supporting students through every aspect of university life, combined with its state-of-the-art facilities, means that RGU graduates leave with the knowledge, connections, and confidence they need to succeed in their careers.
But don’t take our word for it. Read on to hear what students love most about the RGU support services.
‘The support at RGU is outstanding. There really isn’t another way to describe it.
The staff are caring, compassionate, and excel at giving tailored advice for each student.
Teaching staff do their absolute best to make classes engaging and always make time to help with queries. The informal, relaxed style of engagement between staff and students makes reaching out for help feel natural, but there are also dedicated support sessions available if that’s your preferred style.
Support includes help with course content, assessment, extra-curricular activities, employability, and personal circumstances. There really isn’t a problem that staff aren’t willing to do their best to help you with.’

‘RGU has many ways of supporting its students.
It was hard to adapt during my first weeks here because, coming from a different country, I had a bit of a culture shock. The food, the people, the buildings, the weather, everything was so different, and I didn’t know anyone yet…
At first, I also struggled because I did my undergraduate degree so long ago. I wasn’t used to reading and studying, doing exams and homework…
I’m sure I would’ve struggled more without the help of Study Skills. This team offers free academic resources that helped me regain confidence in writing essays. I had the chance to improve my English language skills and study efficiently.
I also enrolled in the Student Buddy Scheme and met this great PhD Law student whom I talked with each week while settling in. She told me so much about the university and the city, the kind of advice you don’t get on websites, which I appreciated.
Even before starting my course, the ResLife team helped me while looking for accommodation. They advised me on how to detect scams, shared web pages I could browse through, and gave me information on student accommodation in general. Now I live with an awesome roommate and can get to RGU by taking the bus just one block from home!
And then, when classes started, I met international students from various backgrounds. I felt fortunate to be part of a big student cohort that shared the same interest in health as I did. I also met this Brazilian classmate who is now my best friend in Aberdeen.’

‘A dedicated team of employability specialists are on hand at any time… to give you the support you need to plan and prepare your next career steps.
There are careers sessions built into your timetable and tailored to fit your degree area. I found these sessions incredibly useful to be able to structure my career preparation around my studies and it was a brilliant opportunity to ask specific questions that were hard to get an answer to elsewhere.
These sessions also introduce you to the online employability platform eHub, which RGU provides to both students and graduates. This platform contains so many useful tools from CV writing and checking to assessment centre preparation. Its value cannot be overstated.
The careers team do an excellent job of planning careers events and bringing in guests who have invaluable advice from their career journeys to share with students.
But some of the most effective support on offer from the careers team is their one-to-one sessions. They are incredibly supportive in these sessions and give you tailored, specific and ongoing advice.
Having another set of eyes (especially from someone experienced with current trends in employability) to point out the strengths and areas to improve on in your career preparation not only makes it significantly easier but also less stressful. And anything that makes my time at university less stressful is a win in my books!’
