The University of Leicester was founded over a hundred years ago as a living memorial for all local people who made sacrifices during the First World War.
With approximately 21,500 students and 3,800 staff, Leicester is one of the very best British and global universities with an enviable record of research discoveries, a flair for teaching innovation and proven success in broadening access to higher education. Leicester’s research has wide-ranging impacts on society, health, culture and the environment, with 89% classed as world-leading or internationally excellent in REF2021.

This partnership supports applicants from all Chevening eligible countries excluding India (for 2025-26 entry), studying Arts, Humanities, Social Science (excluding Business/Management degrees), Geography, Geology and the Environment.

The University of Leicester has welcomed over 60 Chevening Scholars since 2013 from all over the world and is a long-standing member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities. Every year, they proudly host a number of prestigious scholars funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office including Chevening Scholars. Our President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Nishan Canagarajah is himself a former overseas scholarship student, highlighting our unique connection to international scholarships.
