At 19, Viktoriia began her career in international development, determined to help her country rebuild in the wake of conflict. She was awarded a Chevening scholarship in 2022 and accepted into the MSc in Public Policy and Management at King’s College London.
“The exposure to diverse perspectives was invaluable.”
Viktoriia embraced the opportunity to engage with professionals from around the world during her year in the UK. It was through the Chevening network that Viktoriia made connections at Chemonics UK, which later helped her secure her current role.
Viktoriia’s journey after Chevening
Viktoriia now leads the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) team for the Partnership Fund for a Resilient Ukraine (PFRU), a £90 million project aimed at rebuilding public services and enhancing social cohesion in war-torn regions of Ukraine. Through this project, Viktoriia’s work directly impacts millions of Ukrainians, conducting research on public satisfaction, government trust, and social integration, providing valuable feedback that shapes policy and interventions. Her role is integral in reporting to UK Government partners and securing continued funding for future phases of the project, with the budget expected to double.
Viktoriia’s ability to influence the project’s direction is a testament to her leadership and expertise. She led a value-for-money analysis, identifying successful activities and areas for further investment. Her work has shaped the development of the second phase of PFRU, which will continue to address Ukraine’s recovery. Through her efforts, Viktoriia is ensuring that the project not only delivers immediate results but also lays the groundwork for long-term stability and recovery.
Her commitment to helping Ukraine rebuild extends beyond her professional role. Viktoriia describes her work as a ‘psychological clutch’ during the ongoing war, as it enables her to contribute to something meaningful and tangible amid the crisis. The work she does allows her to offer direct assistance to communities affected by the conflict, strengthening her sense of purpose and resolve.
The Chevening experience also shaped Viktoriia’s career by expanding her perspectives and network. She met colleagues from diverse backgrounds, such as fellow Chevening alumni from Georgia and Libya, which enriched her understanding of post-conflict recovery strategies. The friendships and connections she made have continued to support her work and personal development. Viktoriia now actively mentors aspiring Chevening applicants to give back to the Chevening community.
Viktoriia’s Chevening journey has not only equipped her with invaluable skills and knowledge but has also provided her with the platform to drive positive change in Ukraine. Through her work, she is not only contributing to her country’s recovery but also strengthening the relationship between the UK and Ukraine, furthering shared goals of stability, resilience, and prosperity.
