Malaysian scholars visit BAE Systems in Lancashire
Seven scholars, as well as representatives from the Chevening Secretariat, visited BAE Systems Military Air and Information sites at Warton and Samlesbury in Lancashire on 22 and 23 November 2016.
They were hosted by senior BAE Systems representatives and given an overview of the business, as well as visiting their advanced manufacturing and Typhoon final assembly facilities.
Seven of the eight Malaysian scholars, generously co-funded by BAE Systems for the 2016/2017 academic year, took part in the visit.
Wee Ser Tan is studying an MSc in Electronics and Electrical Engineering with Management at the University of Glasgow and attended the trip.
He said: ‘It was a fantastic, eye-opening event. The opportunity to study, see, and understand how jet fighters are built was enlightening for me as an engineer.
‘I enjoyed the flight simulator experience and found their in-house 3D-printing facility equally interesting.’
Applications to study in the UK with a Chevening Scholarship are now closed but will open again in August 2017 for applicants wanting to study here in 2018/2019.
