New Year message from the Rt Hon Mark Field MP
The New Year celebrations are a time to reflect upon the year that has passed, and to look forward to the opportunities to come.
As the Minister responsible for our Chevening programme, I look back with pleasure on my meetings with many of you during the past few months – whether you were scholars, fellows, alumni or partners – some in London, and others on trips to India, China, Thailand, and Pakistan. I have always been impressed by the strength and scale of this special Chevening network of leaders, decision makers and influencers, and I look forward to meeting many more of you in the months ahead.
Chevening continues to offer a unique opportunity for future leaders to discover more about life in Britain – our culture, values, institutions, and way of life – as you live, study, and make lifelong friends here.
Of course, none of this would be possible without the support of our partners, who contribute time, resources, and support to the programme. I would like to extend my thanks on behalf of the UK Government for your continued commitment to the Chevening community.
2018 will be an exciting time for Chevening. The programme celebrates its 35th anniversary and by the end of this year, over 50,000 change-makers will have studied in the UK since it began in 1983. It is my belief that the bonds created over these years will strengthen further as we work together to promote common values and approach global challenges.
I wish you and your families a very happy and prosperous 2018.
The Rt Hon Mark Field MP
Minister of State
