A thriving partnership
Cardiff University partnered with Chevening in 2014 and the impact has been unprecedented. Applications from Chevening Scholars have soared and for the 2015 intake we welcomed in excess of 40 scholars through the University’s doors – all by being associated with the prestige and stature of the UK’s premier scholarship body.
The benefits of being a Chevening Partner are countless, with the scholars bringing so much more to the classroom than just academic excellence. They debate, challenge, and question what is being presented to them, adding that extra dimension to our diverse student body. There is also the brand association, joint marketing and advertising campaigns which have all contributed to us becoming the sixth most popular UK university for Chevening applications.
Cardiff University in conjunction with Chevening is proud to hold one of the annual ‘Best of British’ events, where Chevening Scholars from all across the UK are invited to Cardiff to sample our unique Welsh culture and experience first-hand what Cardiff has to offer.
At our 2014 event, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Colin Riordan said ‘The Chevening programme is one of the most prestigious international schemes, awarding scholarships to help the world’s emerging leaders study in the UK. With Cardiff University’s renewed commitment to the internationalisation agenda, I am delighted that not only are we able to support the programme but we can play our part in helping to create lasting positive relationships with the world’s future leaders, influencers and decision makers.’
These events are the perfect opportunity for students to network and share their stories about their own journey to Cardiff and the UK. Within the university, many scholars will be invited to attend prestigious lunch and dinner events with senior university staff and partner organisations, exposing them further to cultivate links and networks. The International Office also engages with many of our scholars to assist with promotional and advertising work. This can include blogs, videos, and other pieces to share their stories, promote Chevening, Cardiff, and themselves.
The association with our scholars continues much after the end of the academic year. Great ambassadors and advocates are made championing the university, the UK, and the Chevening programme.
