Sandra Guzmán is a Chevening Alumna (2012) from Mexico. She was chosen for the Homeward Bound all-female expedition to Antarctica. Read about her experiences leading up to the expedition here. Now Sandra reflects on the trip and what she has learnt.
From 18 February to 11 March 2018, I had the great opportunity to live one of the most amazing experiences of my life…I visited Antarctica! This was as part of Homeward Bound, a project that aims to strengthen the leadership of women in science, and wants to create a network of 1,000 female scientists from all around the world to protect our planet earth within 10 years.
I had the fortune of being the first Mexican chosen for this amazing initiative and in this video I want to share what this experience meant to me, hoping to call to your attention to the important role that women play in the protection of earth; the need for urgent action to face climate change; and the magnificence of Antarctica, which is being severely affected by climate change.
