Protecting your student visa

How to protect your status once you have your student visa

Once you have your visa, you must still ensure that you protect your status so that your visa is not curtailed or compromised. Make sure that you adhere to the following advice:

  • Enrol at the sponsor institution (university) that issued your CAS
  • Pick up your Biometric Residence Permit from a specified Post Office or Alternative Collection location if required
  • Check the work conditions on your Biometric Residence Permit
  • Do not claim ‘public funds
  • Keep copies of your personal documents, including your visa, BRP and passport photo page
  • Keep all correspondence with UK immigration authorities
  • Maintain attendance on your course and submit your work on time
  • Remember to report a change of address to the university and the UK immigration authorities
  • Do not get into trouble with the police or commit driving offences
