Click on the expanding arrows on this page to reveal everything you need to know.
What to do before your Chevening interview
The first, and most crucial thing to do upon receiving an invitation to interview is to book your interview slot. We recommend you do this as soon as possible.
By following the link in your interview invitation email, you will be prompted to login into the online application system. If you have lost your access code, you can request a recovery code from the system. This will send a code to the mobile number you registered on your application.
If you are still having difficulty accessing the online application system, please inform us by replying to your invitation to interview. Please do not change the subject line.
Once you have logged in you will be asked to book your interview slot.
Candidates that miss the booking deadline will need to reach out to their local British embassy.
Next, you will need to complete the following 3 tasks:
1.Upload a scan of your Photo ID
This will be used to verify your identity and to confirm that you hold valid citizenship for your country of application.
2. Upload your undergraduate education certificate/documentation
3. Upload two reference letters
If you fail to provide copies of all the above documentation by the time of your interview, you may not be considered for an award, regardless of performance at interview.
The location and format of your interview will be confirmed when you book your interview slot.
If you have questions or concerns about the location or format of your interview please contact your local Chevening team at post directly.
If you disclosed any adjustments required at interview as part of your Chevening application, your local Chevening team will be in touch via email.
If you have any additional requirements at interview that were not disclosed on your application, please contact your local Chevening team directly at least 5 working days before your interview.
Your interview will be a competency-based panel assessment conducted in English. The panel will include representatives from the British embassy or high commission, who will evaluate your answers based on global Chevening criteria.
You will discuss the information you provided in your application, including your personal and professional aspirations, and how Chevening can help you achieve your goals. The panel will also ask about your course choices and the status of your UK university applications.
Please remember to bring your official photo ID or passport to your interview.
Best of luck with your interview! This is your chance to showcase your potential and join the esteemed Chevening community.
What to expect after your Chevening interview
Progressing your UK university offers
If you’re applying for a Chevening fellowship, you can skip ahead to find out about what happens after your Chevening interview.
If you’re applying for a scholarship, you’ll need to obtain at least one unconditional offer for one of your three chosen courses by 10 July 2025.
It is your responsibility to apply for the university courses stated in your Chevening application. The interview is your last chance to change your three chosen courses. Once course choices are discussed and confirmed with your interview panel, they cannot be changed.
Read further information on Chevening courses.
After your interview
All candidates applying for a Chevening scholarship will be informed of the outcome of their interview by email from early June 2025. Please note that candidates may be notified on different dates; this is perfectly normal as we manage the process across the network of 160 participating countries and territories.
Please do not contact your local British embassy or high commission regarding the status of your application.
Outcomes for fellowships may vary depending on the programme.
If you are conditionally selected to receive a Chevening scholarship, you will be invited to complete the conditional award task-list on the online application system. This includes:
- Accepting your conditional award, including our terms and conditions
- Uploading any offers you have received from your chosen UK university courses
- Uploading your passport details
- Completing a health & disability disclosure form
Once the conditional award process has been completed, and your chosen UK university confirms your placement, your Final Award Letter (FAL) will be produced.
You should not apply for your visa until you have received your final award letter. Read our visa and immigration advice.
If you are conditionally selected for a Chevening fellowship, our fellowship team will contact you with next steps.
If you are a reserve candidate, you will be placed on a waiting list. If further funding becomes available, or if a conditionally selected scholar or fellow withdraws from the programme, you may be offered an award. You will be contacted if you are upgraded to a selected candidate.
We will only be able to offer scholarship applicants an upgrade if you have received an unconditional offer from one of your chosen courses.
As a reserve candidate, there is no guarantee that you will be offered an award, so we will not be able to assist with tuition fee deposit waivers. Any payment of course deposit is made at your own risk.
If you are unsuccessful this year, we understand that this will be disappointing news. To have reached interview stage is a huge achievement, and we encourage you to read our application guidance and apply again in future.
Due to the volume of applications we receive, we are unable to provide feedback on applications or interviews.
